Muhammad Ibrahim’s Journey to Hearing

Muhammad Ibrahim was just 8 months old when his parents started to notice signs that something was different. Unlike other children, his parents perceived his unresponsiveness to any sound, including his name. Fearing the worst, they sought screening tests to discover what the issue was.

The test results revealed what his parents knew but feared, Muhammad Ibrahim suffered from hearing loss. The diagnosis left his family unsure of how to navigate this new challenge, as they had little experience with the needs of a deaf baby.

The road ahead seemed daunting, especially when doctors revealed that the only solution was costly surgery. The financial burden seemed insurmountable, and Muhammad Ibrahim’s parents feared that their child’s future was uncertain.

But Indus Hospital and Health Network brought hope to Ibrahim’s worried parents. The hospital’s Cochlear Implant Program, which has been successfully running since January 2018, offered Muhammad Ibrahim a second chance at hearing.

Thanks to the help of generous donors, Muhammad Ibrahim underwent a life-changing surgery and was given a cochlear implant. With the support of speech therapy, he slowly began to gain the ability to hear and speak. The transformation was nothing short of miraculous. 

His parents watched in awe as their child began to speak in full sentences, sing his ABCs and Urdu alphabet, and even recite poems. For his parents, the gift of their child’s hearing is priceless. They are eternally grateful to the donors who made this possible, giving their child the opportunity to live a normal life.

The Cochlear Implant Program at Indus Hospital and Health Network, supported by Friends of Indus Hospital, has been a beacon of hope for many families like Muhammad Ibrahim’s. Since its inception in 2018, the program has successfully performed over 250 cochlear implant surgeries, giving children the gift of hearing and speech. With the support of donors and the hospital’s commitment to providing quality healthcare, the program continues to transform lives, one child at a time.
