Embracing Rahma (Mercy): The Essence of Ramadan and Healthcare

Ramadan is the holy month beloved to all Muslims around the world. We believe that Allah’s doors of mercy, compassion, and forgiveness are wide open in this month. Muslims often divide Ramadan in three different ashra (set of ten days)The first ashra is known for Rahma (mercy), the second for Maghfirah (forgiveness of Allah), and the last one for Nijat (safety from Hellfire).

Rahma: The Heart of Islam

Islam is engulfed by mercy and all its tenets encourage kindness, justice, and love.

Even Allah is known to be Ar Rahman (The Most Merciful) and Ar Raheem (The Especially Merciful).

Our beloved Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) embodied mercy as the Quran says the following:

We have sent you ˹O Prophet˺ only as a mercy for the whole world.

(Al Quran 21:107)

Muslims are also encouraged to be kind, generous, and forgiving towards each other as the Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) noted,

“Verily, Allah is gentle and He loves gentleness in all matters.”

(Sahih Al Bukhari)

Healthcare as an Embodiment of Allah’s Rahma

Since mercy holds magnificent importance in Islam, our own health is also Allah’s blessing. Ramadan is an opportunity to express gratitude for this blessing by not only purifying our souls but also our bodies. Hence, having a nutritious diet (that includes dates) can help us sustain ourselves energetically through Ramadan.

As you look after yourself and your loved ones, we invite you to extend this empathy to patients struggling with their health. In Pakistan, more than half the population can not access healthcare.

Friends of Indus Hospital is helping Indus Hospital & Health Network bridge this gap by providing quality healthcare to the underprivileged absolutely free of cost.

Help us and donate generously.
